My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Akron Zoo Great Strides
Chelsey Hecker
My niece, Audrey, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after she was born. From the very beginning, her parents—my sister and brother-in-law—have been the most wonderful, devoted parents, raising a bright, resilient, and happy little girl. Their love and dedication ensure that Audrey thrives, but the reality remains: CF is a life-shortening genetic disease that makes everyday life challenging.
Cystic fibrosis impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs, making it difficult to breathe and fight infections. Every person with CF experiences it differently, but too many face severe complications, extensive lung damage, and respiratory failure far too soon. While research has made incredible strides, there is still so much work to be done to ensure a brighter future for Audrey and everyone living with CF.
That’s why I’m walking—to fight for a cure, to push for better treatments, and to give families like Audrey’s hope for a longer, healthier future. Your support means everything.
Will you join me in this fight?
