Art and I are so proud to stand with Matt and Olivia as they raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Please read Matt’s letter below to see why this is a milestone year in our family’s fundraising history.  
 
“This year's Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides campaign is especially important to me since I will be turning 40 in April. When I was diagnosed at the age of 9 with this genetic disease, doctors told my parents that I would probably not survive past the age of 40. They also told them my lung function would deteriorate throughout my life and that I would most likely not be able to have children. Thanks to medical innovations in CF research, my lung function is higher than it has ever been (100.3%), and thanks to the miracles of IVF, Olivia and I have two beautiful children who, fortunately, do not have CF.
 
Despite huge breakthroughs in medical innovation (genetic modulators such as Trikafta), there is still plenty of work to be done. I have been hospitalized 7 times in the last 7 years from stomach blockages, a potential side effect of the genetic modulators I am taking that dramatically improve the quality of my life. 10% of CF patients still can't take genetic modulators. Their lives depend on new medical innovations that have not yet come to fruition. The drastic cuts to NIH funding will have a long-lasting impact on Cystic Fibrosis research. The CF story of progress and transformation would not exist today without the NIH and the decades of research it supported.
The bottom line is that, due to these cuts, we need donations more than ever.
