My Great Strides Story
Norine McMahon
Fundraising for Bethesda Great Strides 2026
Norine McMahon
April 14 will be my one-year anniversary of joining the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). The foundation's mission is "to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives by funding research and drug development, partnering with the CF community, and advancing high-quality, specialized care."
Last month, I was able to attend the annual CFF Volunteer Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. Most of the volunteers with CFF either have CF or have family members with CF. It was so good to meet and talk with these amazing people who are so committed to being a part of working towards a cure for CF. The stories I heard from them as well as from conference speakers were inspiring and heartening. There was also sadness and grief among the stories.
There were also presentations about the science and research being done to find a cure. I don't pretend that I understood all of it, but it is so interesting to hear how scientists and researchers move their work forward and maintain faith that the goal of a cure is doable.
Of course, that takes money! So, towards that end, I'm participating in the Bethesda Great Strides on May 6. If you can, a donation will be so appreciated. If you can't, please at least go to cff.org and read about CF and the amazing people working towards it cure. I promise you will feel uplifted and inspired.
I've made a personal contribution. Any amount will be appreciated -- $1 helps! It all adds up! The effort will continue until CF stands for CURE FOUND!
