My Great Strides Story

This year marks my 20th Great Strides! It is hard to believe that Thomas will be 20 years old this summer. By the time the Boston Great Strides rolls around on May 18, Thomas will have completed his first year at the University of Pittsburgh. The past year has brought me so much joy -- to see Thomas thriving at college while taking good care of himself and remaining healthy is what every parent of a child with CF hopes and prays for. I could not be prouder of him.
It is not lost on me that it has taken a village to get Thomas where he is today. To say we are fortunate to live in the Boston area with the world's best children's hospital is an understatement. The doctors and nurses, various therapists, technicians, and social workers at Boston Children's Hospital are the best. Behind the scenes are brilliant scientists and researchers discovering new therapies to treat people with CF. And, of course, there is YOU, our dearest friends, family, and champions of Thomas who have supported our family since Thomas was diagnosed with CF at a week old. It sounds cliche, and yet it is true -- our family would not be where we are without you. For your support, for your love and friendship, I thank you with all of my heart.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
