My brother-in-law was recently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. He and my sister, Emily, met competitively swimming in their collegiate years- and while he looked like a total dork back then, his athleticism was apparent. I'd brag to my friends about the people he'd met, the feats he'd accomplish, and how much further I knew he could go. When I saw him coach, I learned how kind and insightful he is. He was so cool, he was almost worthy of my sister!
A few years ago, David got sick. He poured himself into everything he did- treatment teams assumed he was "just tired." After a tumultuous several years in and out of doctors, he received his diagnosis. He and Emily are relieved to have answers and optimistic prognosis. The nebulizer treatments and medicine have already been effective!
I so grateful for the determination he and my sister showed in chasing down answers. I am so grateful he has access to top-of-the-line treatment unavailable only 10 years ago. I am so grateful he will live a long life. I am so grateful he became my brother.
Decades of donations have led to developments that changed David's prognosis. Today, donations go towards finding the origin of Cystic Fibrosis, finding a true cure, and funding the care of those who need it most.
May 13th, I'll be walking to say "thank you" to David, to Emily, and to their team of doctors, for saving my brother's life- and "thank you" to the hundreds of thousands who walked before us, the pennies dropped in charity boxes, the rock-a-thons participants, the fundraiser organizers, researchers, and the families whose support made treatment possible.
Please consider joining me in gratitude with a donation.
