My Great Strides Story
Rebecca Poole
Rebecca Poole
As many of you know, in June of this year, I will be TEN YEARS!!! post lung transplant. While I am so very grateful for the sacrifice of my donor, transplant is NOT A CURE for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). I still battle complicated gastrointestinal issues every day, diabetes, chronic sinusitis and required a kidney transplant (Thanks so much Dad! I love you!) this past November. I continue to lose friends nearly every month to this unrelenting disease and have cried buckets of tears.
Thanks in large part to the CF Foundation's funded research, I have been taking a medication (Trikafta) for five years now. This modulator medication has really made a difference for me and has reduced the frequency of the sinus and lung infections I experience. However, not everyone with CF can benefit from this or other existing therapies due to their rarer mutations and we still need a cure. This will require time, funding, and persistence - but with your helpful donations - we are ready to go the distance. For this purpose, I'll be walking in the CF Foundation's Great Strides event on May 17th.
Can I count on you to make at least a $5.00 donation? Every dollar brings us that much closer to a cure. I hope to live to see the day where CF stands for "Cure Found!" By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.
