What a year of achievements!  In the quest to find pictures that encapsulate Maia’s last year, the theme was definitely one of setting massive goals and crushing them.  Maia graduated from Luther College last May just after the walk.  She moved back to Des Moines and started her chemistry career at Eurofin Labs.  She is settling into adulting and moved into her own apartment in November.  She has already been promoted to a Lab Tech 2 and I can tell they love her there.  What’s not to love!?

Maia set some big goals for the summer and completed her first marathon in Portland.  She also competed in the Trinona, Seattle Masters Nationals – where she was National Champion in the 1500 – and the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.  I love that I get to see her most mornings in the pool, as she continues swimming with new goals of a Half Ironman this September.

None of this would be possible without Trikafta.  Maia was given the green light to stop doing her daily jigglies and nebulizer treatments last May.  She was able to travel to Portland and Seattle and Florida without hauling all of that extra equipment and medication.  She has now gone a complete year without daily treatments.  Can you imagine being given an extra hour in your day – every day!  She transitioned to a new adult CF doctor and her lung function continues to be at record high levels.  I couldn’t be more proud and excited for her future.  Thank you for all of your support.  She is living proof of the success of science!
