Cecilia is now 16 years old and Maria is 11 years old. They are proud ambassadors for Great Strides 2026. Cecilia was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at age four after being sick frequently, and Maria was diagnosed at birth. The news of both diagnoses was a shock to our family, and we were very scared for several months. But watching how both girls fought every day, with courage, strength, and a smile on their faces, made us stronger.

Over the past 12 years, we have seen the face of cystic fibrosis change in incredible ways. What once felt overwhelming has transformed into one of the greatest medical miracles we have ever witnessed. CFTR modulators, including Alyftrek, have truly transformed the lives of people with CF, just like our daughters.

With daily breathing treatments, responsible medication routines, and the incredible care team at Children’s, Cecilia and Maria are thriving and healthier than ever. They take pride in caring for their health while continuing to live full, joyful lives.

Both girls are truly amazing and surprise us every day. Maria enjoys competitive dancing, painting, and reading fantasy novels. Cecilia thrives academically, is a member of the National Honor Society, and loves dancing, music, playing guitar, and reading dystopian novels. Together, they love to improvise and create at home. Their favorite dance style is tap.

Fundraising, advocating for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and participating in Great Strides have been incredibly important to our family. We have seen firsthand the difference these efforts make, and we are deeply grateful to be part of a community that turns hope into progress. We are thankful for our family and friends who always support us, and for brother Carlos, Mom, Dad, and everyone who will always be there cheering them on. CF does not define Cecilia and Maria, and we are grateful that they can pursue their dreams doing what they love most.
