My Great Strides Story

Dear Family and Friends,
We are getting ready to fundraise and walk for Great Strides: A Walk to Cure Cystic Fibrosis! We are getting ready for our annual Cystic Fibrosis Walk! Great Strides is the CF Foundation’s annual walk that raises money to help support vital Cystic Fibrosis (CF) research and care programs. I am writing to you to ask for your help and enlist your support. The date for our walk is Saturday, May 17th, 2025. We will be gathering at Carson Park for the walk and silent auction.
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of approximately 30,000 people in the US. More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. To have the disease, a person needs to have 2 defective genes (mutations). Much progress has been made toward finding a cure for CF, however, the CF Foundation’s work is far from over, as precious lives continue to be lost to this disease.
I have been continuing to stay healthy the past 5 years since starting an amazing medication that corrects the chloride channel defect in the cells of those living with CF
A new medication was just recently approved at the beginning of this year that may be even more effective and has a wider range of CF mutations that it covers, opening the doors to more people with CF to get relief from symptoms! These medications have been life saving for many! Although they are not without side effects, some which are severe for a number of people.
There are now 5 of these “Modulator” on the market. These drugs are not a cure, nor do they fix the gene mutation, but they help the cell function more like it should. We still need a lot of research to be done to find a cure! Many studies are going on right now for gene therapy and for medications that help with antibiotic resistance, which is a common and very serious issue for those with CF.
These advancements in research have only been made possible by generous donations like yours to support funding for the research. Thank you for your past donations that have helped make these great strides possible!
Therefore, we need your donations now more than ever to help continue research to find new treatments, medications, and ultimately a cure. With nearly 90 cents out of every dollar going directly towards research, you can feel confident that your donation is going towards a good cause.
Please support me by helping me reach my fundraising goal of $5000 by donating to my Great Strides fundraising campaign. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with CF by supporting life-saving research and medical progress. Your gift is 100% tax deductible. Checks can be made out to “CFF” and mailed to me at the address listed above. To donate to my online campaign, follow the link below. It’s easy, fast and secure.
Thank you for all your support!
God Bless,
Kayla Hays
