Our Great Strides Story

Fundraising for Fargo-Moorhead Great Strides

Once again we're participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk. Our son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic disorder that causes problems with breathing and digestion. We were told life expectancy at the time was early 30s and now, over 20 years since his diagnosis, that number nearly doubled thanks in part through medications and innovation in treatment options that have become available for patients like him.
CF is not curable but can be managed with treatments that help control symptoms, prevent complications, and make the condition easier to live with. Managing a condition like CF is a full-time job to say the least. He is typically on half a dozen treatments/medications at once.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By either participating in a CF event near you or donating to our fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
