My Great Strides Story

Fundraising for Frederick Great Strides
Colleen Crowley
It’s time for one of mine and my family’s favorite days of the year, the Frederick Great Strides walk. I am Colleen of “Colleen’s Crew”, I was diagnosed with CF at 2 weeks old after an intestinal blockage at birth. For most of my life I was fortunate to be in relatively good health. Growing up all the way through college I was responsible for 30+ daily medications & digestive enzymes, twice daily (or more when sick) breathing treatments, frequent antibiotic courses, regular clinic appts, research trials, and adequate exercise to keep my lungs strong.
In 2020 I was blessed with the chance to start Trikafta, which has changed mine and my family’s lives. I’ve been lucky to experience minimal side effects, have a stable lung function mostly 90%+, and overall feel more reassured and confident about a long future ahead. This has taken a huge mental weight not only off myself but my whole family, who have always been my biggest supporters. It’s because of people like you donating selflessly to this foundation that has led to the incredible medical breakthroughs like Trikafta.
Unfortunately, there are still a large amount of CFers that are unable to take this medication amongst the other genetic modulators and treatments. For them, I promise to stay steadfast in my efforts to raise awareness and strive for a cure for this ruthless disease. If you are willing and/or able, please consider donating to this link. Just know you are making a huge difference!

There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
