Team Give Yourself Grace
Trista Elliott
Those closest to us know that prior to birth, our daughter Grace was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. CF is a disease caused by a defective gene that causes the body to produce thick, sticky mucus which affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs.
Every person born with CF experiences this challenging disease differently. We are thrilled to share that Grace is currently healthy and thriving. So healthy in fact, that she does not need to take any medications or digestive enzymes and we were able to stop all nebulizer treatments and chest physical therapy. We feel eternally grateful because we know this is not the case for most people with the disease.
With recent breakthroughs in research and treatments, the average life expectancy for someone born with CF today has doubled in the last 30 years. We don’t know what the future holds for Grace and her health but we are hopeful that there will be cure for CF in her lifetime. By donating to our fundraising goal, you are helping us make that dream a reality!
With love,
Trista, Mike & Grace
The story behind our team name:
Mike and I were overjoyed to learn that we were pregnant with a baby girl. We spent our days dreaming of who she would be and what we would name her. The name Grace was always at the top of our list.
When we received Grace's diagnosis, we were shocked as neither of us knew we were carriers of the disease. Our genetic counselor at the time told us to "give yourself grace" as we came to terms with the news. We hadn't yet shared the name we had in mind, but we knew then that it was meant to be.
