Roughly 40,000 people in the United States are currently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, including my young niece who was among the 1 in 3,000 newborns diagnosed with CF at birth. 

CF is a genetic condition that causes systematic degeneration of the body, primarily affecting the lungs and pancreas. Most people with CF will eventually die of lung failure. In the mid-20th century, the life expectancy for Cf patients was grim, and most lost their lives to CF as toddlers. Today that life expectancy reaches well into adulthood, but we haven't reached the finish line yet. 

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made "Great Strides" in research, developing medication and working towards a cure for CF. However, due to the number of genetic mutations and variety within them, some families and patients still cannot benefit from these advancements. 

We are fundraising, and walking in Great Strides in May in order to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation further it's research towards a cure, with the hope that someday EVERY CF patient can live a longer and healthier life.
