When our son Gavin was diagnosed at age 2 ½ with cystic fibrosis (CF), we had no idea what it meant for our family. We knew it was serious, but the true fear set in when we learned CF was genetic, and I was already six months pregnant with our second child. Two weeks later, through amniocentesis, our unborn son Jake was also diagnosed with CF. After giving ourselves a moment to breathe, we made a decision that would define everything that came next: we were going to fight for our boys.
We knew we could not do it alone. So we built an army, The Baker Boys’ Battalion, and got to work.
ShamRockin’ for a Cure was born in 2009 when our close friends dreamed up a way to throw a great party and fuel the fight against cystic fibrosis. From the stage of Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, we watched that army grow year after year, an unforgettable community of friends, family, and supporters rallying behind CF families. ShamRockin’ became our symbol of strength and hope, and together we have raised over $4 million since its inception.
As we look ahead, ShamRockin’ for a Cure will take a well-deserved break and return on March 24, 2029 to celebrate 20 incredible years! During this time away from the stage, our mission remains as urgent as ever. Our energy will shift to fueling progress through Great Strides Atlanta and the Baker Boys’ Battalion, continuing to push forward for Gavin, Jake, and the more than 40,000 people in the U.S. living with CF.
We are endlessly grateful for every person who has joined our battalion. Your support gives our boys, and thousands of others, the very real chance to live long, healthy lives filled with possibility.
xoxo,
Pam Baker
