We are excited to be celebrating our 10th year of fundraising for this wonderful cause. Last year we proudly raised over $10,000 and we’d love to surpass that total this year in honor of our Goddard Graduate Hayden and his mother Lois who is a long-time beloved teacher at our school. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation does not receive any government funding, which is why fundraising is so important. Because of generous donations from companies like yours, the median life span for individuals with CF has gone from 39 to 64 years old since Hayden’s diagnosis ten years ago, which is astounding! Hayden continues to thrive due to his daily aggressive treatments that include taking 25 pills (he can swallow 9 at a time!), two breathing treatments, and two chest physiotherapy sessions (via a vest that shakes the body to physically loosen mucus in his lungs) each day. CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
