Dear Family & Friends,
Team Suzy’s Striders is back! On Saturday, May 17th, I will be participating in the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) in Jacksonville, FL with family & friends including our newest strider, baby Brooks! Each year, thousands of people participate in nearly 300 walks across the country to help advance the mission of the foundation: to find a cure for this disease. And this year marks the 12th year of Suzy’s Striders! To date, we have raised over $42,000 thanks to the very generous donations of family & friends. It is my team’s goal to raise $3,500 and to get there, I am again asking for your support.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a devastating, progressive genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF born between 2019 and 2023 is predicted to be 61 years!
Our very own Suzy, my mother, was diagnosed with CF as a teenager, and it is through the efforts of the CF Foundation’s research that she has been able to live a remarkable life. She has benefited from many of the recent drug advancements including Trikafta, which is the first triple-combination therapy developed to treat the underlying cause of CF. While Trikafta has been amazing for my mom, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies either because their disease is too advanced or because their specific genetic mutations will not respond. This is why your help is needed now, more than ever, to keep up the momentum of this life-saving research.
I thank you in advance for your support in helping me reach my goal of $3,500 to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in their research aimed at controlling and curing this terrible disease. Any amount that you can contribute will go a long way for my mother and others. And one day, we will make CF stand for CURE FOUND!
