My Great Strides Story

It all started (for us) over 16 years ago, the shocking diagnosis of cystic fibrosis for our firstborn grandson. Though grieving with the diagnosis of a disease we did not fully understand, we all banded together (Family and friends) to help Waylon's parents care for their critically ill newborn. We set up 'the Waylon Watch', scheduling 12 hour shifts to cover the Children's Hospital days and nights that rolled into 3 weeks. His life for the next 12 years consisted of recurrent lung infections, repeated hospitalizations, and as he grew home care became an intermittent option.
And through it all he was a trooper!
Age 12: Enter Trikafta. He has been blessed.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis but treatment options, like Trikafta, have enabled a fairly 'normal' life for our handsome grandson.
Donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation have made it possible by funding research for treatments and the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
I’m walking to help change that to a reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
