Welcome! Thanks for visiting my page! I hike to end Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and that is what Xtreme Hike 2025 is all about. Last year, I hiked 24 miles through the misty, tundra-like trails of the beautiful Canaan Valley Resort State Park in Davis, WV, in honor of my sister Catherine, and in support of my brothers Tim and John. It was misty because low fog sits in the valley until almost noon and tundra-like, because the terrain reminded me of Skagway, Alaska. In fact, there is an area of the valley named “Little Alaska.” It was wet and rainy with several water crossings to negotiate.
Thanks to all my family and friends who provided encouragement and OUTSTANDING support before, during, and after the hike! Together, we again raised over $3500.00 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and CF research to overcome this terrible disease and, for a 6th year in a row, we led the MAS Mileage team in donations. Let's do it again!
The picture below shows Catherine, Tim, and Tony, at the top of a chaparral ridge somewhere in Thousand Oaks, CA. It too was a misty, wet, and prickly hike through fields of cactus and rattlesnakes! Our first hike together. It wasn't always fun but we "Hiked Until It Was Done” and then we sang all the way home. Catherine is still with me. Her positive energy and enthusiasm for life, adventure, and family have always been an inspiration to me and have helped keep me focused on what is most important. Until there is a cure, I will continue to “Hike Until It Is Done!”
This year the Xtreme Hike returns to Snowshoe, WV. It will be my first hike there. So, I don’t know what to expect, but hopefully no cactus or rattlers! However, I do know that Catherine will be watching over me and urging me on with a whisper, "Go! Mojo Jojo!" In hiking and supporting the hike, we continue to love and honor her and work to help others who still struggle with CF. Please consider donating or providing some encouragement in support of my efforts this year.
Very respectfully,
Joe
