Year 13 of Great Strides for our family! I can't believe how time has flown. When I look back to that first Great Strides in 2014, I wish I could have told myself as a new parent how much things would change in a few short years. Just after that first walk, Drea was hospitalized for three weeks with a massive lung infection. It only got better when doctors took the (necessary) drastic step to remove the entire infected lobe of her lung. I was so scared of what the future would hold.
Fast forward to today - she no longer has to do her 1.5 hours of breathing treatments every day, her weight is awesome, she plays soccer, loves swimming, has stable lung function, and when she gets a cold - no lung infection! Do you know how hard that was to fear every sniffle, knowing that she would be sick for weeks and need antibiotics every time?
These advances are thanks to the CFF and their innovative, effective, and life-changing research. Even though we have these massive improvements, it isn't a cure and the medicines don't help every type of CF. We're walking for a cure for everyone.
