My Great Strides Story

Amy Alcantara
Jackson is just like any other 7 year old boy. He has so many passions that keep him active. He loves to play baseball on the rec and travel teams. His artistic skills are impressive! He loves to be outside, no matter how hot or cold it might be. He loves a good wrestle with his sister. If you know Jackson, you know he is ALWAYS on the move! The term 'bouncing off the walls" is a literal saying when it comes to Jackson. While you may not know that Jackson is sick just by looking at him, Jackson is constantly fighting the effects of Cystic Fibrosis. Jackson spends over an hour a day doing treatments to keep his lungs clear. Jackson takes 8 medications a day, which adds up to about 25 pills a day and multiple inhaled medications as well. He uses a feeding tube overnight to gain extra calories to continue to gain weight and grow. His endless doctor appointments can take a toll on him. This disease not only affects your physical health, but your mental health as well. Jackson often feels different than his peers and his medications can have side effects. Overall, Jackson has an empathetic heart and a passion for life.
By donating to our cause, you are helping to add more tomorrows to Jackson's future. Jackson's age expectancy at birth was 35 years old. With all of the medical advancements the CF foundation has made in his 7 short years of life, his life expectancy has risen to 61. I'm so hopeful that Jackson will see a cure in his lifetime, but that only happens with the help of your donations.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
