My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Northern Virginia Great Strides
Kate & Brendan MacKenzie
We are walking in the Northern Virginia Great Strides event this year to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As many of you know, our daughter, Abigail, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 2 weeks old. CF is a genetic disease that causes thick, sticky mucous to build up in the organs, primarily affecting the lungs and the pancreas. Abby is on many daily medications to help clear her lungs as well as help her digest food as her body cannot break down fat on its own.
Thanks to the efforts of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the life expectancy for those with CF continues to rise. Thanks to the breakthrough medications that are funded by the CFF, Abigail has remained healthy and is just a typical three year old, and even became a big sister this year!
The research that has been funded by the CFF has led to breakthroughs for other genetic diseases and their treatment as well. They are committed to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis
While the CF Foundation has made incredible progress, not everyone with CF can benefit from existing therapies and we still need a cure. This will require time, funding, and persistence – but with you on our team – we are ready to go the distance.
Our team is committed to providing every person with CF the opportunity to live a long, healthy life. Will you join us? We would really love all who can to show up for the walk
