My Great Strides Story

It's that time of year again. I, along with other members of Team Adam, will once again participate in the Great Strides walk in Northern VA.
Many of you know that I have a younger brother, Adam, who was diagnosed with CF at a year old. At that time, in 1994, the average life expectancy of someone with CF was in their 20s. Adam is now 32 years old. With all of the advances, because of donors like you, a lot of research has been done and CF patients are living normal lives well beyond their 40s.
On a daily basis, Adam takes 30+ pills to help his food digest and has to wear a vibrating vest while doing breathing treatments twice a day to help break up the mucus in his lungs. He never complains or has self pity. He just does what he needs to do.
I'm so proud of the man he has become. Adam has reached exciting personal milestones that have opened up fresh opportunities. This past year, he and his wife, Kim, celebrated their third wedding anniversary. Most recently, Adam and Kim celebrated their precious little girl, McKenna's, first birthday on March 20.
These achievements, big and small, are a reminder of the importance of family, health and hope. I walk in honor of my HERO, my brother, Adam, and all those affected by Cystic Fibrosis. One day I hope CF stands for Cure Found!!
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I'm walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.
