There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and I know all too well that too many people with CF die young. We take part in Great Strides to help change that reality for my family and so many dear friends affected by cystic fibrosis.
I have benefitted so much from research and its resulting life saving treatments but the road to a cure is very long and, like NYC, filled with big potholes. I hit a few this year: pneumonia, GI issues, my first hospitalization and IV meds in 10 years, CF related arthritis, and terrible side effects from a new CF medication that many deem a miracle. Great for them, but it's not for me. I'm still trying to find my way back, healthwise, to where I was before I started it.
The devastating cuts to research have real-life consequences and we are seeing them. As much as I hate fundraising, it is more important than ever this year. If you are able, please consider sponsoring our walk with a donation to the CF Foundation.
