Dear Friends & Family,
It is that time of year again, where Bob’s Buddies is preparing for its 19th Great Strides Walk in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Bob’s Buddies has raised over $195,0000 to support Cystic Fibrosis research thanks to your generous support.
Bob is now 18 and just finished his freshman year of college at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Since starting Trikafta 5 years ago, Bob has stayed out of the hospital and for the first time ever he has gone an entire year without an requiring a course of antibiotics for an infection. We moved his chest PT machine and nebulizer into his dorm room in September and we moved it out last week, after it collected dust for 9 months. He now only needs those treatments when he has an exacerbation brought on by illness.
Although this year as not been without its struggles for Bob and managing his care. Trikafta causes significant weight gain for most patients, including Bob. The weight gain caused the onset of CFRD or Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes. Bob coordinated his care between Mass General and University of Rochester CF Centers. He managed new medication that involves injections and navigating the Wegman’s prepared food section, since the dining hall did not offer good choices for his now high sodium, high fat, low sugar diet. Bob came home for the summer 50lbs lighter and ready to take on his final season of Legion Baseball.
We continue to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to fund research to find the next generation of treatments that will hopefully have less significant side effects.
Thank you for your continued support!
Love,
Jason, Andrea, Josh & Bob
