“Do what you can, with what you've got, where you are.” ~ Squire Bill Widener
I am the oldest of three sisters. My second younger sister, Krista, was born with CF in 1979. Sadly, she passed away in 2000 at the age of 20 while awaiting a lung transplant. She is my “why”. I watched her live a life that was significantly impacted by her cystic fibrosis since she was a baby. While she still actively participated in all the expected experiences related to school, sports, activities and friends through high-school, her CF made it more challenging. Her daily routine was dictated by many medications and time-consuming breathing treatments. After high-school, the complication of CF made pursuing a college education, living independently and securing employment difficult. In her honor, I want to do what I can so that others do not have to be limited by their cystic fibrosis diagnosis.
I don’t have the education to help find a cure for CF nor do I have a surplus of money to put towards the research for it. But, I do have an able body to train for an extreme hike, a circle of friends, family and acquaintances that are willing to help me fundraise and the willingness to make the uncomfortable ask for help in financially supporting the mission to make CF stand for “cure found”.
I am doing what I can with what I have where I am.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m hiking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
