My Breathe Team Story
Jeff Dore
Fundraising for Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race 2026
Jeff Dore
If I had been born with a 'typical' case of Cystic Fibrosis in 1952 I would most likely have died by age 5, definitely by junior high. But my CF is 'atypical' and I didn't have my first bout of pneumonia until my 30s.
Since then I've been laid low by dozens of cases of pneumonia and repeated hospitalizations; some pretty serious bouts. We called it "CSOL" for Crappy Set of Lungs. But last year, at 72, we were shocked to learn of a new name for it: Cystic Fibrosis. This is a genetic disease that kills people from thick, mucous buildups in their lungs. And here I was, diagnosed at age 72 with a disease I've had all my life! But thanks to funding entirely by donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, there's a miracle drug that has changed my life.
It's not a cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF still die young. So for the second year, I'm violating my lifelong "never-ever-run" vows and running in the Peachtree Road Race 10k to raise donations to continue the life-saving work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
