My Great Strides Story
Mary Apakian
Fundraising for Philadelphia Great Strides
Mary Apakian
The Apakian Family is walking to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. There is currently no cure and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality, for my daughter Emily and all those with this disease.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
The CFF was a trailblazer in using a venture philanthropy approach, partnering with for-profit companies to fund drug development, a model that has been recognized and praised by leaders in medicine, business, and healthcare advocacy. Drugs like Pulmazyne and TriKafta that help keep our Emily well many years longer than when she was first born. While these keep some of her symptoms at bay, we are still hoping for a cure.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed help this happen, for Emily, and everyone else with CF.
