My Great Strides Story
Connie Lowmaster
Fundraising for Pittsburgh Great Strides
Connie Lowmaster
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
I continue to participate and support Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for my loving friend Lisa. She is my hero and was a great warrior but CF took her 11 years ago just shy of her 26th birthday. For the first few years I knew her I was not even aware she had CF. She loved to dance and she even was a lifeguard, she was simply full of life.
In 2008 Lisa invited me to participate in my first CF walk and it was then I realized the urgency in helping those with this disease. Lisa inspired me to realize what a gift life is and how brief it can be and to make a positive impact on others when possible. I promised her all those years ago that I would continue to do what I could to raise money for the CF Foundation and I will! In the past 5 or 6 years the actual walks have been moved to such places like Pittsburgh so even though I don't travel to the event I'll still continue to try to raise money for them.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
