Katie's Bumbles

Thank you to all of you who have donated to the Katie's Bumbles for the last 32 years!

Thank you also to the innovation, persistence and hard work of the CF Foundation and Vertex, the FDA's approval of Trikafta in 2019 and more recently Alyftrek, positively changed the trajectory of Katie's life.

Prior to Trikafta, Katie's lung function was steadily declining and she was in what seemed like a never ending cycle of hospitalizations and at-home IV treatments, all while trying to complete her Doctorate of Psychology degree. Honestly, it was very difficult time in Katie's life and we felt helpless watching her deteriorate while anxiously awaiting the approval of Trikafta. I'll never forget the tears we all had the day Katie picked up her first box of the new medication at the pharmacy. We had hope again.

While we will be forever grateful for Trikafta, the side effects were very difficult for Katie as well as many others who were eligible to take the medication. Thankfully, Vertex and the CF Foundation, as partners, continued to work hard to develop a new generation of a modulator with less potential side effects as well as improved outcomes for some. This past year, Katie switched to Alyftrek and some of the side effects have diminished and her quality of life and overall health has improved.

Katie and Reed celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary this year. Katie continues to be busy with her own psychological practice, Dr. Katie Lawliss, while doing her best to balance her health, family, and two "doggos". She is an avid reader and crafter, and recently set up her first booth selling her weavings and mosaics at a local craft fair.

There is NO cure for CF, and not all people living with CF are currently eligible to take Trikafta, Alyftrek or any other CF modulator as eligibility is based on each person's specific CF genes. We NEED to continue to ask for your support so Katie and others with CF can continue to improve the quality of their lives. Thank you so much from my family to yours.
