My story is a bit different, but not unlike so many who did not know that they have a direct connection to CF. As the executive director of your New Jersey Chapter, I am here to serve our CF families. As a new grandmother, this cause has become very personal to me. When my son & daughter in law became pregnant with their first child, they discovered that they were both CF carriers. Their child was born as a carrier, but this discovery has now put them on the challenging IVF journey as they plan to expand their family. While it is wonderful that IVF is an option today for young families, it is often a costly and arduous path.
I stand with all CF families, in gratitude that there are better treatments and that there is quality CF care available in New Jersey - but knowing that it is simply not enough. CF makes it harder than it should be for young families to have babies. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. CF is still a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. We need to find a cure.
