Tara Norton
I found out I was a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) with my first trimester pregnancy screening in 2021. Our OB shared that this is the most common gene carrier mutation identified. My husband and I were educated on what CF is and should both of us carry this mutation, there would be a 1 in 4 chance of inheritance of CF for our baby. In 2023, we celebrated the arrival of my beautiful niece, Avery. Following newborn screening, my sister and brother-in-law were provided a diagnosis that did not seem real- their newborn baby girl had been diagnosed with CF. I walk for "Team BrAvery" as Avery and her parents have faced the diagnosis with courage as they manage the complexities of treatment to proactively maintain her health and prevent complications. We are on a mission to spread awareness and support the great works of CF Foundation. There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality and to support the research into CF that not only prolongs lives but also improves the quality of living.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
