My Great Strides Story
Nichole Baumgart
Fundraising for Seattle Great Strides 2026
Nichole Baumgart
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality. I want a brighter, healthier future for my daughter and for myself....something that many CFers long for each day they wake up.
Although life expectancy continues to rise, this is dependent on people's treatment option, where they are in their CF stages of the disease, and their genetic CF variants. For Anna and myself, we are unable to use the amazing CF modular treatments that 90 percent of CFers have access to. And this can make a big difference to Anna specifically in having a healthier, longer life like her CF peers.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. My daughter, Anna, has struggled more than I have in her short 7 years of life, while my own struggles have been more modest than her harsh reality. Simple things like going to school in person, running down the block, and having the courage in crowds of people come hard for her since she has to always think about how her body will respond in these situations. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
