My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Seattle Great Strides 2026
Dewayne Simpson
When our daughter Asta was born. Within weeks, she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis a moment that changed our lives. Suddenly, our days revolved around treatments, medications, and fear of what the future might hold.
Feeling overwhelmed, I searched for ways to help and found the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. What began as a source of information quickly became a source of hope. Through the Foundation, I connected with families, advocates, and researchers who understood our journey and were working toward better treatments and a cure.
I started volunteering at local CF walks and sharing Asta’s story online. Friends, neighbors, and local businesses rallied behind us, helping small fundraisers grow into large community events that raised both awareness and support.
Asta is 4 now—strong, joyful, and resilient. While cystic fibrosis still brings daily challenges, our involvement with the Foundation has transformed fear into purpose. Every walk, donation, and conversation moves us one step closer to a future where children like Asta can live long, healthy, unrestricted lives.
