My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Seattle Great Strides 2026
Brianna Cornelius
My sister was my best friend. Her name is MAKAYLA. She lived with cystic fibrosis for 29 years and fought as long and as hard as she could. Through every challenge, every hospital stay, and every setback, she showed strength that inspired everyone who knew her.
On September 7th, 2025, one week after her 29th birthday, her fight came to an end, and God welcomed her home.
Makayla Will live on through her young son, and her family, and through the love and memories she left behind.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis, and far too many people with CF die young. I’m walking in her honor and memory to help change that reality.
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic, life-shortening disease that damages the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. It makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. Every person born with CF has a unique journey, and each experience with this disease is different.
While progress has been made through research and new treatments, it came too late for Makayla and far too many others. A cure is still urgently needed so that no other family has to experience this kind of loss.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you are helping advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward…A CURE for everyone with CF, in Makayla’s name.
