My story with CF starts the day I was born. Immediately doctors knew something was wrong and even though I dont remember, I know emotions were high. At age 4, I had a feeding tube placed due to how underweight I was. Growing up, I knew I was different, I was even bullied for my illness and I craved to be like everyone else. I envied people that could breathe without it hurting, and those that were able to play sports. In my teen years, I struggled with depression and I still do, its just gotten better as time went on. I always thought maybe im a burden to others due to all the medications I take and all the scars I have from previous hospital stays. These days, I cherish those scars and embrace new one's due to the fact they are proof of my hard battle. Im almost 20 and that'll be two decades of fighting this long battle.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I'm walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
