My Xtreme Hike Story is mostly a story about a girl named Caroline, whom I only met briefly but who left a lasting impact. It was the day after my first extreme hike when we sat at the same table for breakfast. She told me a bit about her treatment, her future plans, and a host of other things. I recapped my hike and some of the challenges from the trail. She then shared some tips and advice that her dad learned over the years as an Xtreme hike veteran. Caroline was genuine and kind and a wonderful human.
While I don't know all of the details, I understand that Caroline was fortunate to respond well to a recently released treatment option. Armed with this new treatment, she trained for an Xtreme hike of her own and completed ~22 miles. When I learned that this young teenager took on both Cystic Fibrosis and the Appalachian Trail simultaneously, I knew that I would be back at it raising money and awareness for this worthy cause.
While her story is not mine, the inspiration she gave me was a gift that I am compelled to pass on. Those who know me best understand that asking for donations is harder than the 31 miles and 8k feet of elevation. But I am doing both because of Caroline and the other children battling CF.
If you are able, please consider joining me in the fight to end cystic fibrosis. Your donation brings us closer to a cure!
