20 years ago we started fundraising to support the quest to cure Cystic Fibrosis for Merrily and the thousands of others born with this horrific disease. Thanks to the CF Foundation, friends and family, huge advances have been made resulting in drug development to better treat CF, including the latest breakthroughs, drugs that treat the underlying defect. Hooray! Merrily was born at a pivotal time, being able to take advantage of these breakthroughs as a child and a teen. She also has access to great healthcare. She is doing great but is not cured. We have raised over $165,000 over 20 years thanks to our network, including many of you. Raising $165k is peanuts in the CF community - many raise $100k a year. But we are grateful for those who have supported us just once and also for the many who have given year after year. We are proud of our unwavering commitment to help cure our daughter! Both John Wesley and Jimmy Carter had similar quotes that summarize our efforts over the years: (John Wesley) "Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as you ever can." There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m hiking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
