CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Trista was diagnosed at the age of 5. Currently she takes enzymes anytime she eats anything that contains fat and protein to help her absorb her food. Since Trikafta has been approved several years ago Trista has not had to do her vest or neb therapies anymore. Trikafta is a real life game changer!! I love that there is a so called "cure" for now until something more permanent comes along. That so called cure does come with a big price tag. For Tristas enzymes and trikafta monthly the cost is $45,000.00. Not everyone can take trikafta because the of type of CF gene they have or their insurance might not approve the treatment so we need to continue raising money for the ultimate cure and treatments.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
