My Great Strides Story

Fundraising for Tampa Bay Great Strides 2026
Sherry Jackson
Dear Family and Friends,
This year I am stepping up the fight against Cystic Fibrosis as I promised my son I would. Michael lost his life long battle with CF on September 30th, 2012. He spent 2 months at All Children's Hospital before being transferred to Shand's Hospital in Gainesville with the hope of receiving a double lung transplant. He died just 3 weeks later, 10 days after his 15th birthday. I am heartbroken for all the "firsts" he never got to experience such as getting his drivers license, his first car, his first kiss, his first love and experiencing being a father. For all these reasons, I will continue the fight for him and for all the others that were taken too soon and for those still fighting this disease.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help me end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
Supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors, honoring the taken and never, ever giving up hope.
Until there is a cure,
Sherry Jackson
