Kaci O'Sullivan

Hi, my name is Kaci O’Sullivan. My mother, Karen Murphy, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was 18 months old. The doctors said that they would be surprised if she made it to school age. My mother went on to go to nursing school, become an RN, and work for over 30 years as a NICU nurse.

On New Year’s Day in 2006, my mom had a double lung transplant. They said that her new lungs would only last her 3-5 years. My mom lived to be 60 years old and just so happened to pass away during
Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month.

CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis.

Next Saturday, I will be walking to support the research and science needed to hopefully one day find a cure for CF. My mom fought her entire life against this terrible disease and I am excited that I have the opportunity to walk in her honor.

As for my mother’s wishes, we will not be having any kind of service. In lieu of flowers, if you are able to donate or share this link, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much,
Kaci 💜
