My Great Strides Story

Daniela Duran
As some of you may know, Team GI Joe was created by my husband, Joe, in hope to spread awareness about Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and also in memory of his older brother, Gabriel, who passed at a very young age to CF. The actual meaning of Team GI Joe is "Gabriel Inspiring Joe".
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Joe was diagnosed with CF at the age of three and has had his fair share of ups and downs over the years. In 2013, I witnessed first hand what Cystic Fibrosis can do to CFers. Joe became extremely sick due to the bacteria, pseudomonas, within in lungs. His Pulmonary Function Test (PFTs) fell to the low 30 percentile, and had to be on home antibiotics via IVs for several weeks. Many CF patients experience these type of exacerbations on a regular basis. Thankfully organizations such as the CFF help drive the critical research and drug development that help CF Warriors lead a more normal life.
Over the past several years, Joe has been fortunate to be on one of the latest advancements in CF medication, TRIKAFTA, which has had a significant impact on his health. By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to help bring forth more medications, such as TRIKAFTA, to the rest of the CF community and help drive the research and science needed to our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
Thank you for supporting Great Strides & Team GI Joe! Together, we can make a difference and "add tomorrows" to the lives of those with Cystic Fibrosis.
