My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Triangle Great Strides 2026
Lexi Cottrell
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis, and too many people with CF still die far too young. That's why I continue to walk and raise money through my Great Strides team, "Lexi's Wish," to help change that reality.
I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at just 2 years old, and CF has shaped nearly every part of my life. I grew up with daily breathing treatments, medications, clinic visits, and learning how to manage a disease that most people around me could not see. While treatments and research have come a long way, CF is still a progressive, life-shortening disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. Even on the good days, living with CF means constantly thinking about infections, treatments, and protecting your health.
At the same time, growing up with CF is also what inspired me to pursue medicine. I am currently a physician assistant student, and my experiences as a patient are a huge part of why I want to care for others with compassion and understanding. I've also dedicated my research to improving care for people with CF, specifically focusing on reproductive counseling and the challenges young adults with CF face as they transition through different stages of life.
CF is deeply personal to me - not just because I live with it, but because I know firsthand how much strength this community has. I also know there are still too many people waiting for the breakthroughs they desperately need.
By donating to my fundraising goal, yu aroe helping support the research, treatments, and advancements that bring us closer to a cure for everyone with cystic fibrosis. Every donation truly makes a difference.
Thank you so much for supporting me, supporting the CF community, and helping us fight for a future where everyone with CF can live a longer, healthier life.
