Great Strides 2025: A new chapter in the fight against cystic fibrosis
Trikafta changed everything. For many people with cystic fibrosis (CF), including Sean, this breakthrough treatment brought life-altering improvements. It’s not an exaggeration to say it reshaped the future of CF care—and that progress was made possible thanks to the relentless support of the CF community and the work of the CF Foundation.
But our work isn't done yet.
As we enter a new era for the CF community, there are still critical challenges ahead—especially for adults living with the disease. While Trikafta has dramatically improved lung function and quality of life, it's not a cure. Many aspects of CF—such as damage to the pancreas, kidneys, and GI tract—remain unaddressed. For people like Sean, managing these ongoing complications is a daily reality.
There are also many unknowns about what it means to age with CF. For the first time in history, more adults than children are living with the disease. This milestone brings new risks—like increased rates of osteoporosis and cancer—and an urgent need for data, research, and forward-looking care.
This is the next frontier: long-term quality of life, reversing damage, and ultimately, finding a cure. The CF Foundation is leading the charge. But that leadership is under threat.
Reckless funding cuts to the FDA and NIH are stifling medical research. Promising studies are being paused, scaled back, or shelved—threatening to delay future breakthroughs for years to come.
That’s why continued support is more important than ever.
On May 10, Team Seananigans is joining Great Strides, walking into the unknown—together—until it's done. Every donation supports advocacy efforts and the critical research needed to help people with CF live longer, healthier lives.
