The first time I learned about cystic fibrosis was not in medical school, but in high school. A freshman in my year had cystic fibrosis. She was a kind, quiet girl who understood her disease. I was scared for her and it was difficult to accept how someone so young could be so sick and be given such a poor prognosis. This was over 30 years ago and medicine is still continuing to find new cures for cystic fibrosis. As an internist now, I help manage patient's diseases to have the best days they can. I may not be a researcher who will find the cure for cystic fibrosis, but I'm honored to help raise funding not only for this cure, but also for medicines that help every day quality of life and advances that prolong life for those with cystic fibrosis. I will be running in the Berlin Marathon this September for the Connecticut chapter of the "breathe team" and hope you will support me!
