Fighting Fish

As many of you know, Colin was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 6 months old. Just over a year later Katelyn was born and since CF is genetic, we tested her and knew within 48 hours she too had CF.

In the beginning we knew very little about this chronic illness and it would affect our lives. There were some tough times in those early years. Hospital stays for high powered antibiotics, bronchoscopies, picc lines to deliver medication, learning how to do chest physiotherapy, managing medications at home.

CF can affect any organ in the body, as it makes cells create very thick and sticky mucus. However, mostly it affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Soon there was promise. Promise of a drug that would correct the genetic defect. A daily pill which finally became available for Colin several years ago and Katelyn soon thereafter. It is 2 pills they take twice daily, and will until there is a cure. They are healthy, thankfully, due to this medication, but still not everyone with CF can benefit from it, and like I said, it is not a cure.

If you can, please donate to my mom, or myself. We invite you to take part in Blue Ridge Great Strides by supporting Team Fighting Fish anyway you can. Thanks! Until it’s done!!
