I continue to walk for my son Luke. Luke inspires me with how much he has grown and takes on his health challenges. As he gets older, he is more aware of everything he has to do to maintain his own health. He is doing a great job with remembering his treatments and taking his medications before he eats.
It is challenging when he gets sick and there is a fear that we all share now that a simple cold can turn into something more serious that is more difficult for Luke to get over. I don't want him to live with that fear as he gets older. I want him to be self sufficient without needing to do as much as he does to maintain his health. I want that for all people living with CF. While treatments have improved and Luke's path is much smoother than the kids just a few year's older than him, he still needs to do breathing treatments and take multiple medications everyday to stay healthy.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
