There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis but with the continued donations there has been significant improvements in the preventative measures we can take each day. Conor is 8 years old and is thriving. He has a "common genetic mutation" Delta F 508. This means that he has access to a new FDA approved drug, Trikafta...everyone with CF does not have access to this. This year I am going to run, possibly walk , even crawl the Chicago Marathon. Conor will no doubt give me the strength I need to complete this race. Each day he completes 40 minutes of "vest" treatments. This is a airway clearance and a preventative measure he can take. He has completed over 116,000 minutes of this so far. I think I can run a very small percentage of that time! Finding out that Conor had Cystic Fibrosis at 2 weeks old was earth shattering as any new parent can relate to... finding out the news your little one will endure something you couldn't imagine. We have been humbled to meet so many parents going through something similar but also to have such a great support system that includes our family, friends, and his healthcare team at Advocate-Oak Lawn. The CF foundation has reached out to us many times inviting us to various events, taking us out to dinner, and just checking in on milestones throughout this journey. Please consider donating to help CF stand for a cure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
