My Great Strides Story
Joella Thornton
Fundraising for Gateway Chapter Great Strides
Joella Thornton
Hi, I’m new here 👋 My name is Joella, but a lot of people call me Baby Joey. I recently learned how to walk just in time for my 1st Great Strides walk!
My family has been walking in Great Strides since 2009 and I’m excited to join them this year. They walk in memory of my Aunt Kayla, my dad’s younger sister, who had cystic fibrosis. She had a late CF diagnosis when she was 8 and passed away on May 15, 2011 when she was only 12 years old. Kayla’s Wish was that CF would stand for Cure Found instead of cystic fibrosis, so I’ll be walking in Great Strides to help make her wish a reality 💜
I know that she is my special guardian angel, but it would have been so much fun to have her here to play with me. I want to make sure no one else loses a loved one to cystic fibrosis and need your help to raise important funds to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of my Aunt Kayla to do just that!
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young, like my Aunt Kayla. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
