I met my sister-in-law, Kelly, when I was in high school. To meet her then you would never know that she had struggled her entire life to beat the odds as a CF patient. She was in her early 20s by that time, but when she was born her parents were told that if she made it to 16 she was one of the lucky ones. I'm extremely happy to say that through some really tough fights, and almost dying before they found her perfect transplant lung-match, that she is living a very full, and happy life. It is with many thanks to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's advancement in medicine that Kelly was able to live past 16 years old. I'm so grateful to the foundation for their advancements that allowed Kelly to be a part of our family. When we started hiking 7 years ago, I was mostly hiking for Kelly's cure. Now, I hike and fundraise not only for Kelly, but to also give back to all the CF families still in need.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
