My Xtreme Hike Story

Every year we fundraise to support the CF foundation and the great work they are doing towards finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. This year, I’m hiking the Grand Canyon AND leading a Great Strides team. The fact that my wife Rebecca is alive today is due to a unique combination of medical advances, drug development, and an incredible will to survive. It’s an inspiring and dramatic story. However, we’re fundraising so that others with CF don’t need inspiration and superhuman resilience just to survive into middle age.

10 years ago, Rebecca spent half of the year on a ventilator not knowing if she would survive to see the next day. A double lung transplant saved her life but we had a lot of close calls. Just a few months ago, she needed and received a kidney transplant, narrowly avoiding dialysis. She’s seen it all and fought through it…but enough is enough. Not only do we want a great outcome for Rebecca, but we want to ensure that nobody else has to fight this hard and have their life cut short.

The CFF is making a real difference by driving innovation, the development of modulators, and the search for a cure that will make CF a thing of the past. There are still so many people that can’t take advantage of the drugs that are available due to their mutation or reaction to the medication. Let’s give them a fighting chance as well.

Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?

By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
